Milesnick Spring Creeks | Montana Angler Fly Fishing

The Milesnick spring creeks are located in the heart of the Gallatin Valley and are a popular location for several of our Bozeman fishing guides. The ranch is home to two outstanding Montana spring creeks: Thompson and Benhart. It also provides private access to a productive portion of the East Gallatin River. Milesnick's is a working cattle ranch filled with wildlife such as pheasants, waterfowl, sandhill cranes and whitetail deer. Views from the ranch are spectacular with mountain views of the Bridgers, Madison Range, Hyalite Peaks, Horseshoe Hills, and Tobaco Roots in every direction. Benart is the larger of the two creeks but still small compared to the Livingston spring creeks. It offers very technical nymph fishing for very large wild browns and rainbows. Trout well over 20" prowl the depths of its large bend holes and hatches can be prolific in the spring and summer. Benhart fills with weeds and becomes difficult to fish by mid July but is very good in the late spring and early summer. Thompson spring creek is one of the most technical in Montana and holds a dense population of browns and rainbows. Trout readily rise to baetis, pmd's and tricos and the creek fishes well into the late summer and fall. The trout are exceptionaly spooky and one bad cast will send 30 trout flying for an undercut.

We also frequently fish the East Gallatin River when on the ranch. The East produces large trout and great hatches of baetis, pmds and tricos. This smaller river is holds nice sized trout and the fishing is often similar to fishing a spring creek with delicate casts required to fool sipping trout.

The Milesnick Creeks are not open during the winter and fishing begins in mid May and extends until late November when they close again. If you are planning a Bozeman fly fishing vacation, you may want to consider a day on these terrific creeks!
