Fishing
Beh Kay offers exceptional mixed species opportunities - if you are looking for a "grand slam" this is a phenomenal location to stack the deck in your favor. None as the "House of Permit", the lodge is perfectly situated to target some of the most productiver permit waters in the Carribean. Resident tarpon, migratory tarpon, bonefish, snook, barracuda and jacks are all possible game fish to enjoy. Espiritu Santo Bay is difficult to get to and sees less pressure than other waters further north.
Permit
Espiritu Santo Bay is famous for its excellent opportunities for permit. Permit can be found year round on the flats year round. Permit prefer warmer water so mid winter fishing depends on weather. Stable high pressure days can produce decent shots but cold fronts will move the fish off the flats. Permit fishing becomes more stable in March and extends through October. Mid winter can still produce some incrible permit days when the weather is stable.
Bonefish
Beh Kay lodge offers excellent year round opportunities for bonefish. Sight casting is the norm and the protected lagoons and shallow flats that hold large numbers of bonefish. This region is not known for trophy size bones but the numbers are excellent.
Tarpon
Resident tarpon are found in Espiritu Bay year round. Baby tarpon are often located in some of the mangrove systems, but much larger tarpon (some over 100lbs) roam larger flats during the migratory season from April through July.
Snook
Snook are an excellent gamefish and are prevelant in and around the mangrove systems of Espiritu Santo Bay. At higher tides look for snook moving through the "holes" in the mangroves where they can be intercepted. At low tide snook will often leave the mangrove to cruise beaches. Sight casting to snook often involves making tight casts to snook that slowly cruise in and out of the mangrove roots.
Barracuda
Barracuda are common on the flats. Having a specific "cuda" rod rigged with a wire leader can provide some incredible fun for the explosive takes that come with these apex predators.
Jacks
Jacks are another fantastic game fish that are found patrolling the flats. These are hard hitting predators that will take you into your backing in seconds. They will hit streamers or even your bonefish shrimp pattern if a group comes cruising in while targetting other.
