Christmas Island offers a wade only flats fishing experience in the heart of the Pacific Ocean. This is an amazing location for first time saltwater anglers to enjoy success on the large numbers of bonefish that patrol the flats. More adventurous anglers can also expect to take shots at trigger fish, the occasional GT and some other unique reef species.
Accommodations on Christmas Island are not luxurious. This is more of a "fish camp" style of program. Rooms are basic but clean and air conditioned. Meals feature a lot of local seafood, rice and pasta. This is one of the best values in saltwater fly fishing, but it is also far from "fancy". Trips to Christmas island are ideal for guests that want to expand their horizons and sea this remote part of the world on a no frills trip.

Fishing
Christmas Island offers guests classic sight casting on saltwater flats. This is a wade fishing only location. Days are spent stalking the expansive flats in search of bonefish and other saltwater gamefish. This an incredible destination for anglers new to saltwater fishing thanks to the high densities of bonefish which provide lots of shots on the flats. In addition to world class bonefishing, guests can also encounter other unique species such as the legendary giant trevally or the unique triggerfish. Christmas Island is part of part of the world's largest chan of atolls and the hard flats are a wade anglers paradise.
Equipment
Bonefish, Trigger fish and Goldern Trevally
We recommend a 7-8 weight rod with at least 100 yards of backing and WF floating line. 10-12 foot leaders tipped with 2 feet of 12-16lb tippet are preferred. Bonefish flies in sizes 4-8 such as gotchas, Christmas Island specials, clouser minnows, etc.
Giant Trevally
We recommend 10-12 weight rods with at least 250 yards of 30lb backing. Floating weight forward lines with straight flourcarbon leaders of 40-80lb test. Flies include size 4/0 and 5/0 large saltwater baitfish patterns
Wading Gear
We recommend quality lace up flats boots or rubber bottom wading boots with wading socks. A waterproof backpack is nice. Good polarized glasses and sun protection is important.
Accommodations
Christmas Island Outfitters hosts a maximum of 12 anglers per week. The lodge is located on the beach with six double occupancy rooms with private baths. Rooms are simple and relatively rustic but clean and air conditioned. Meals are very basic and regularly featurce fresh seafood, chicken, pork, rice and pasta. Fresh vegitables and fruits are not always in easy supply on this remote location. These are not fancy accommodations and a "fish camp" would be an appropriate description.
